Teerath Singh Mehra

Shri Teerath Singh Mehra graduated in civil engineering and subsequently earned his Master's degree in Water Resource Development from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Throughout his distinguished 30-year career, he served in various capacities before retiring from his final position as Commissioner, Brahmaputra and Barak (B&B) in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.

At the Central Water Commission, Shri Mehra made significant contributions to the nation's infrastructure by designing critical multi-purpose mega projects along the Narmada River watershed, including the landmark Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar projects.

Shri Mehra dedicated more than a decade in navigating complex trans-boundary water issues with neighbouring countries including Bangladesh, Bhutan and China. For approximately six years, he played an instrumental role in implementing the Ganga Water Treaty of 1996 between India and Bangladesh. During his final assignment as Commissioner (B&B), he skilfully managed bilateral water resource negotiations with Bhutan and China, provided technical oversight to the Brahmaputra Board and spearheaded initiatives for sustainable hydropower development throughout India's strategically important Northeastern Region.
